"Bishop your clergy robes are very elegant! Where do you get them?!" As I travel in ministry my clergy vestments, robes and garments are always revered! "I search for them, design or have them custom made." I openly reveal my secrets!

Early in my preaching ministry I decided to robe myself in His Garments with elegance! It takes a little creativity and extra time but you can too!

Let me share a reflection. I was dashing to run errands when Elder Miller curiously stopped me! "Bishop, do me a favor...will you change your shirt...you don't look so becoming today!" Elder NEVER get's in my business in this manner, so I asked, "Ok, but why? What's wrong with the way I look today?" "Well, YOU ARE THE BISHOP, you can't go out looking like that!" I looked down at myself and wondered what he was referring too??!!!

Elder Miller is a corporate executive and frequents all different types of corporate events, seminars and conferences. FOR YEARS and upon returning from a conference, he would always brings home collared, logo golf type shirts. He NEVER wears them! FOR YEARS, he has put them in my closet for me to wear for chores, errands, going to the gym or track etc. What was different with today's choice of "errand running shirt?!!" The Lord showed HIM SOMETHING and ME TOO!

Harmlessly, I WAS WEARING A MAN'S SHIRT! Elder said for the first time, "Bishop, you are wearing a man's shirt!" "Honey, you've been giving me these for years Elder as 'knock around' shirts...so,what's up today?"

"I am not sure, but it would be better not to wear them any longer" he replied. Lovingly, he went to our local retailer, Lord & Taylor's; he filled my closet with WOMEN'S GOLF SHIRTS in EVERY COLOR IMAGINABLE!

I got the picture! There is nothing wrong with wearing a golf shirt...but WEAR A WOMEN's or LADY's golf shirt! I heard the Lord speak clearly! NO UNISEX clothing! Dress for the KINGDOM AT ALL TIMES-even on your day OFF!

So it is with clergy attire, vestments and robes! Discover resources for those vendors who make WOMEN'S Clergy Wear and Attire! There is a difference in vestments made for Men and those made for Women.

On a trip to China, I had a Hong Kong tailor make two clergy shirts for me. Actually, they NEVER fit or looked right for my ministerial purposes. Then I asked the sister who alters my suits to try and make a few for me! WHAT A DIFFERENT APPROACH!


There is a difference between a blouse and a shirt! Men wear SHIRTS and women wear BLOUSES! Women's blouses have pleats, an bellowing sleeves, softer materials, pastel patterns and colors as well as DARTS! Take a favorite blouse sewing pattern and customize the neck with standard clergy collar bands! Retool your favorite "church sister" who is a seamstress and challenge her to make a clergy BLOUSE for you! You will win a trusted vendor and she a valued client!

Here is a favorite tip! I will go to the African flee market in Harlem, New York. I pick up a robe that I like. I will make my selection based on fabric, color and a "royal" affect as well as appearance. I will have my seamstress taper the robe, put in shoulder pads and then I will "ORDAINIZE" THE ROBE! I have her take some of the fabric which has been cut and make a STOLE!

Why not start your ministry developing clergy attire for Women IN Ministry!

There will always be a client sent of the Lord to you!

The CLERGY STOLE is the cleric symbol of the ORDAIN MINISTRY! "ORDAINIZE" a favorite robe with a stole and you have an elegant clergy vestment as well as robe for the Women Preacher! Accent with a handkerchief of the same scrap and PREACH A WHILE!

The secret is CREATIVITY! Collect fabrics, African robes and materials. Be prepared to "CUSTOMIZE" and "ORDAINIZE" existing patterns and robes to make them feminine and elegant. Approach your clergy attire the same as you would a new suit or dress!

By all means, DON'T WEAR MEN'S CLERGY WEAR...you will end up LOOKING LIKE A MAN IN A MALE DOMINATED ROLE! NO UNISEX Clergy Garments PLEASE! It is the TRANSVESTITISM of Priestly Garments! For a Women In Ministry, the assignment is difficult enough, so approach it like QUEEN ESTHER! You will be dressing for HIS SUCCESS in you!


Reminder: After making a garment, have it dry cleaned and then consecrate it! Bless oil and pray dedicating the garment as well as anoint the vestment! Consecration takes that which is for common purpose and make it holy unto the Lord for His Success IN YOU!
