I recently read in a tech blog that Forrester projects 10.3 MILLION popular e-readers will be under the Christmas Tree this year. That's up 9 MILLION more e-readers sold this year than last year! " Peter Hildick-Smith of market research firm Codex Group comments recently in The NY Times Online, "This is the tipping-point season for e-readers, there's no question. A lot more books are going to be sold in e-book format. It also means that a lot fewer people are going to be shopping in bookstores."
Well, Borders couldn't agree more as it plans to close 17 stores right after Christmas! "Borders Books will close 17 stores early next year. The Detroit Free Press had the news: “Borders Group plans to close 17 Borders superstores nationwide after the holidays including one in Michigan. The last day of sales is Jan. 7 for the store at 30995 Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Hills.” reports MediaBistro.com
In 1992, I received a “heads up” about e-Publishing which I couldn’t believe! I was the “wrap up” speaker for a trade design business conference. My assignment was to listen to all of the speakers and offer a closing reflection. I listened carefully to design and media professionals present their 10 minute speeches. One in particular received my undivided attention.
“There will be no more shopping malls. There will be no more hard copies of anything. There will be no more books as we know it. Our homes will be media centers having everything we need to entertain at our fingertips. Most importantly, the book as we know it will not be a book any more,” I couldn’t believe this gentleman’s presentation as I listened intently. Though hard to conceive his forecast, I never doubted a word!.
In 2010, when Barnes and Noble closed its major mega retail store in Lincoln Center, New York City, the trade publishing woke up to the truth of this projection becoming a reality. Huffington Post reported, " Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts will have to look harder for books to buy: Barnes & Noble is closing its 60,000-square-foot Lincoln Triangle Store." In early winter of 2007, I began to digitize content for e-Books. Unknowingly, Amazon announced its launch of the Kindle e-reader in November, 2007. I was forewarned; I prepared myself to not only write but publish electronically!
I have been a publication designer since 1974 and saw this coming! I prepared myself to not only write but publish my content online. I offer my own personal resource links for exactly HOW TO e-PUBLISH directly into KINDLE, iPAD, NOOK, Kobo and other popular e-readers and apps. While the playing field is level anyone who desires to write has the greatest opportunity ever to compete. I offer this challenge to you as I offer to my audience online:
"Suppose you had a popular document and you sold it for .99 cents at Amazon, iBooks, Barnes and Noble and Borders online. Suppose every e-reader under the Christmas tree this year purchased your .99 cents e-book. How much would you have?"
Well, you will never know unless you, "U-PUB" Just Be You And Prosper! I really share my "insider secrets" for e-publishing DIRECTLY into Amazon, iBooks, Barnes and Nobles and Borders without any help from the recommended aggregators. This means you receive maximum royalty payouts directly to your bank account! Have a website? I recommend the best digital goods e-cart for those full IMMEDIATE payments directly into your PayPal account!
That was easy!

Smashwords Author Brian S. Pratt to Earn over $100,000 in 2011
From The Smashwords Blog About Brian S. Pratt's Unbelievable Success!
This Could Be You To! Write Your Stories and U-PUB!
"At first glance, Brian S. Pratt of Boswell, Oklahoma doesn't fit the stereotypical profile of a best-selling author. Yet he, and others Smashwords authors like him, represent the future of publishing.
Pratt began publishing with Smashwords in early 2009. His first quarterly royalty payment was $7.82. While most authors would find that number discouraging, Pratt was encouraged. It was a start.
In the quarters since, Pratt's earnings have grown, and in recent quarters he's become a veritable breakout success. Last quarter, he earned over $18,000 from sales across the Smashwords retail distribution network. This quarter, with three weeks to go, he's on track to break $25,000. He's on track to earn over $100,000 in 2011 at Smashwords, and up to $200,000 total when he includes his projected Amazon sales. Not one to count his eggs before they're hatched, though, he's fast at work on a next series.
The road to here was anything but easy. At age 43, he's held a number of eclectic jobs, ranging from an U.S. Air Force avionics technician to a taxi driver. Until recently, as he shares in the interview below, he was living below poverty level.
He writes fast-paced, can't-put-it-down fantasy. Pratt started writing because the series authors he enjoyed reading weren't completing their series fast enough. So he started writing books he'd like to read. Unlike some ebook series writers who carve up books into short serialized chunks, Pratt's books are full-length, with most clocking in around 150,000 words."
